Delivery
Annex: Artorian's Archives #3
Dennis VanderkerkenAs I mentioned yesterday, today was the beginning of the island opening up a bit after four weeks of strict lockdown. To celebrate we ordered some food and had it delivered. While Bermuda has come a long way in being able to get things delivered, for such a small island, we really haven’t quite nailed it yet. Very few restaurants provide their own delivery. I can only think of two, and one is quite new.
To meet that need a couple of generic food delivery services have arisen as platforms that restaurant can use to provide both online ordering and delivery services. However, these services are pricy. You can pay upwards of twice as much as if you went and picked up the food yourself. Between the per item markup, delivery fee, ‘convenience’ fee, and driver tip, it can add up.
I won’t deny it is convenient, and for a special occasion, it isn’t a problem, but I won’t be doing it too often. I will have to brave the curbside I guess. :)
Other than the delivery of food, the day wasn’t much different than any other Saturday for the past month or so. As it turns out, they are still limiting grocery shopping days by surname to avoid overwhelming the stores. So I still have to wait until Monday.
Things I’m grateful for:
- Getting food delivered
- Naps
- Weekly chats with my whole extended family
