    Exams begin. This is the last obstacle before the road trip. A necessary evil.

August 7, 2003

  • 12:00 PM Halifax, NS
    Exams end. Road trip begins now as we will be leaving once we get our stuff pulled together.
  • 3:00 PM Durham, NS
    Arrive at Colin’s place for the night. Take a dip in the pool and stock up with necessary items.

August 8, 2003

  • 10:00 AM Durham, NS
    Leave for New Brunswick. This leg of the journey will include most if not all of Colin’s family. There is a family event taking place in Saint John. Chris is being driven to his place in St. Andrews, NB.
  • 4:00 PM St. Andrews, NB
    Chris arrives home. Colin returns to Saint John for the festivities that await.

August 10, 2003

    Colin leaves for St. Andrews to get Chris.

    Leaving for the official part of the road trip. The adventure begins now. Not that it hasn’t been fun so far.

    Arrived in Fredericton to buy some stuff at Canadian Tire and the Superstore.

    Left Fredericton on the 104 headed to Woodstock. Got gas along the way in Nackawic and later stopped outside Woodstock for a roadside supper.

    Crossed the World’s Longest Covered Bridge.
  • 9:00 PM 5 Miles South of Grand Falls, NB
    Stopped for the night at Mulherin’s Campground. Total driving for today (From St. Andrews) was 359.2 km.

August 11, 2003

    Left the campground and continued north along the Trans-Canada towards the Quebec border.

    Crossed over into Quebec. Ma français est assez terrible. :P

    Stopped for lunch and decision-making before heading towards Montreal.

    Left Rivière-du-loup and headed towards Quebec - 200km away. We decided to take the scenic route 132 Ouest. :)

    Stopped at a very nice basilica to empty the camera onto the laptop. Browsed the photos and had a snack and carried along the 132 Ouest.

    Stopped at the IGA Extra to get ketchup. Started raining shortly before this.

    The crazy heavy rain finally stopped.

    Left the parking lot in Montreal. Destination: Ottawa.

    Finally made it out of Montreal and onto the highway toward Ottawa.

    Crossed over into Ontario on Route 40.

    Arrive in the greater Ottawa area.

    Meet up with Karen at the Fox & Feather. (Elgin & McClaren)

    Got back on the road after some confusion surrounding which road was which due to some renaming of routes etc. But we managed.

    Apparently there is no movie theatre in Aurora - off to Newmarket.

    (4:15 EDT) The power went out in what turned out to be the largest blackout in history. Most of Ontario, New York, Cleveland, Boston, and a large chunk of the Eastern Seaboard lost power for many hours just when most people would have been returning home from work.

    25 Whitburn Cres. - Arrived at Chris’s uncle’s place. The power was still out.

    Left to see if the movie theatre was operating. It wasn’t.

    Returned from Walmart and the attempted movie check. Not much going on in the city. 75% has power, crazy times.

    Leave for Wasaga Beach area. Toronto is teh suck for the weekend.

    Arrived at Wasaga Dunes Family Campground and set up for the night. Driving done today: 165 km.

    Crossed into Quebec.

    Stopped in Old Montreal for a bit of sightseeing and lunch.

    Back onto highway after Montreal.

    Arrived in Quebec for a (very) quick visit.

    Leaving Quebec City and back out onto the highway towards Rivière-du-Loup. We didn’t even get out of the car in Quebec. :)

    Crossed over into New Brunswick - back to Atlantic Daylight Time. From here out you need not subtract an hour to find our actual time.

    Stopped for lunch in a truck weigh-station.

    On the road after lunch.

    Arrived at Chris’s place - 407.8 km driven today. So far.

    Colin left Chris’s place heading back to Durham. This will be the first night driving as it is a 4.5-hour drive.
