Road Trip 2003 - Aug 12
It feels good to get a shower and shave after a good night’s sleep. Of course we have only been on the road for two days, but I had spent the night in a tent the two nights before the trip as well. In any case, we needed a place to access the internet, the junkies that we are.
The drive yesterday was a lot of fun. Once we left Riviere-du-loup, we stayed off of the TCH (Route 20) the entire way to Montreal. We came in via the 132. This route took us along the St Lawrence River the entire way and proved to be much more scenic. The road was 90km/h most of the time, but we would often pass through small communities along the way, bringing us down to 50km/h. This was much more enjoyable than the highway because although it wasn’t divided, there weren’t that many cars on the road and the pace was considerably relaxed. It also allowed us to stop whenever we felt like it, which we did a couple times.
When we were passing by Quebec which was a little less than halfway to Montreal, it started to pour rain. When we got past Quebec, still on the 132, it was coming down so hard that I could barely see and would have pulled over (like other cars had) but as quickly as it started, the rain slowed and stopped. It was like Quebec city was getting rain, but nowhere else.
We drove into Montreal around 10pm ADT and that was quite something. I have only ever been to Montreal once before and that barely counts. Driving in myself is a totally different experience. But we managed and stopped at the Travelodge right in the centre of town. All told, a very cool day two and I can only hope that this day will be just as cool. We are going to be going to Ottawa tonight and staying with a friend from Computer Science, Karen. She was gracious enough to offer her living room floor to us. :) Thanks Karen!!
