The Last Sun

K. D. Edwards Book cover for The Last Sun

In the interest of continuing to dump parts of my brain all over the internet, I thought that I would share some information on my efforts to ensure my step count is over 10,000 despite not going anywhere… at all.

So the simplest way to put it is running on the spot. Whenever you can. Most nights after everyone else is asleep, I’ll put on a movie or show and just watch it in the dark, jogging/walking on the spot. For like 45 minutes some times. I can rack up 5K steps sometimes like that.

Another thing that helps is that every hour, if I’ve been sitting, my watch reminds me to stand. So I usually take that opportunity to do some more jogging on the spot. Maybe five minutes, but it adds up. Basically anytime I start to feel sore or restless I may do something similar, which is a fair bit with my current less than great desk setup. Also if the weather is nice (not too windy), I will take some meetings outside and just pace around the porch.

These are actually my newer working from home additions to my routine. Before that, I had one habit, and that was going outside shortly after supper, putting in some earphones and just jogging on the spot for about half an hour. That was usually enough to get me over the 10K for the day. Sometimes if I was in the midst of a particularly exciting book, I’d be listening to that, but more often than that, I’d listen to music. In particular my Running playlist. Or should I say, my ”90s Eurodance Running Playlist”.

It is certainly not going to be to everyone’s taste, but I’ve found the music and the tempo to be quite energizing. If you have Apple Music, then you should be able to listen to it directly from that link. And if doesn’t compel you to exercise/jog/dance then maybe it will bring to back to thinking about what you were doing 20 odd years ago.

And if you want something faster to bring you up to full speed, then I’d recommend trying out some Nightcore.
