F-14 Tomcat

The F-14 is perhaps the most popular Fighter aeroplane right now It is manufactured by the Grumman Aerospace Company and is a two-seat, multirole Navy Fighter aeroplane, and is equipped for carrier landings.
The F-14 is propelled by two General Electric F110-GE-400 afterburning turbofan engines, and can travel at Mach 1.88 (1.88 times the speed of sound) with a maximum range of 1600 nautical miles. An F-14 needs 2500 feet to takeoff and 2400 feet to land (on a runway- the distances are shorter for a carrier landing or takeoff) and can fly to an altitude of 53,000 feet.
The length of an F-14 is 62'8" and stands 16 feet tall. The wing span is different depending on whether they have spread or swept the wings back. The wingspan (spread) is 64'1", but the wingspan (swept) is only 38'2".
Carried underneath the F-14 are up to 6 AIM-7 Sparrows, 6 AIM-54 Phoenix, and 4 AIM-9 Sidewinders. These are air-to-air missiles, used to shoot down other aeroplanes. It also carries air-to-ground missiles such as MK 80 series bombs, Rockeyes, and CBU-59 Cluster Bombs. It also carries a GE Vulcan cannon.
The F-14 costs $30 million to manufacture and the Navy uses them as air superiority Fighter aeroplanes.

F-16 Fighting Falcon
The smaller F-16, built by the General Dynamics Corp., is used by the Air Force as an all-purpose Fighter aeroplane. An F-16 is 16' tall, 49'5" long, and has a wingspan of 32'8". One Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-200 turbofan engine with an afterburner is used to propel the F-16 to speeds up to Mach 2 at sea level (1500 mph). The F-16 has a range of 1,740 nautical miles and can fly at least 15 kilometres high. It carries one or two people depending on the model. The biggest advantage it has over other Fighter aeroplanes is its agility, which is why it is the aeroplane used by the acrobatic Blue Angels. Carried on an F-16 is one 20mm multi barrel cannon with 500 rounds and up to six infrared missiles (air-to-air or air-to-ground). An F-16 costs $13 million to manufacture and the United States Air Force deployed the first one ever in January 1979.

F-117A Stealth Fighter
The F-117A is the first aeroplane to use the stealth technology and little is known about it. The special coating on the outside of the F-117A makes it invisible to radar by cancelling it out with two layers of reflecting paint. As well, the two General Electric F404 engines are sunk well into the fuselage, so do not attract heat-seeking missiles. Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Co. builds the F-117A for the Air Force as a Fighter/attack aeroplane with (in air) refuelling and internal weapons carriage, to fly almost at the speed of sound. With a length of 65'11", a height of 12'5", and a wingspan of 43'4", the $45 million F-117A weighs in at 52,500 pounds and seats one person.
